The
objective of the improved land, crop and livestock husbandry component is:
Increased
production & productivity from farming – crop and livestock – based
on sustainable and environmentally sound management of the natural resource
base, through linked packages of agricultural production interventions.
Specifically
the component will include the following aspects:
- Increasing awareness,
knowledge and skills on improved LM&CF technologies and practices
- Promoting adaptive
research trough e.g. farmer trials and an ASP research fund
- Promoting increased
security in land tenure, e.g. training of local leadership on land
tenure and linkages to democracy and human rights, assisting communities
in lobbying and advocacy for
improved security of land tenure and facilitating the development of
community land use plans
- Increasing livestock
production and productivity, through e.g., encouraging fodder banks for
pasture management and fodder grass production, facilitating
introduction and access of improved and appropriate breeds (including
links to breeders and livestock suppliers), training in livestock
management, and facilitating adoption of appropriate supplementary
feeding technologies
- Promoting increased
and diversified crop production, through e.g., encouraging growing of
high value crops, organic produce and others
- Promoting HIV/Aids
coping strategies, such as labour saving techniques and production of
nutritious foods for a nutritious diet.
