Capacity Building among Relevant Support Entities

The key role played by capacity building in ensuring sustainability cannot be overemphasized. Capacity building is therefore addressed throughout the ASP.  Relevant, appropriate and timely technical/skills training is addressed under each component of the ASP.

The objective of this component is:

Increased capacity among the relevant structures and organizations supporting farmers and groups (including farmer groups, government, private sector and NGOs) to effectively promote food security, “farming as a business” and other programme objectives.

The eight key areas under this component are:

  • Improved provision of participatory extension services by public and private organizations
  • Improved information services on marketing, agribusiness opportunities, agriculture techniques and practices, gender, environment and HIV/Aids
  • Improved capacity of local authorities and local government
  • Improved organisational capacity and empowerment among farmers and farmer groups
  • Outreach programme at primary schools
  • Increased HIV/Aids, environment and gender awareness
  • The whole array of facilitation, which are availed to farmers can also be made available to relevant support structures including Access to the ASP Risk Fund.
