A Programme supporting increased Food Security and income by promoting "Farming as a Business" concept in Central, Eastern, Northern and Southern Provinces of Zambia, through a process of facilitation, training, infrastructure improvement, capacity building among support entities and linkages to relevant service providers.
Small Scale Farmers Access Low Cost and Instant Market Information...

With the advent of the cell phone a unique opportunity for small scale farmers to access instant market information has opened up. The Zambia National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU) in conjunction with the Smallholder Enterprise and Marketing Programme Agribusiness Development Component (SHEMP ADC) and the ASP have seized this opportunity to promote the “ZNFU 4455 Market Information Service”.

Through the Short Message Service (SMS) small scale farmers, traders and/or processors with a Celtel subscription can now access market prices offered by specified buyers for 12 commodities. The ZNFU 4455 Market Information Service costs approximately US$ 0.15 per text message and has the buyer’s contact details.
